I'll be getting back to you Dan. I'm a Trinidadian and a follower of WI cricket. I was left befuddled, confused and angry even before we faced a ball in the T20 World Cup. A cursory glance at your article (I'll get to a full read by tomorrow hopefully) reveals that you are saying in pretty numbers and pictures and pristine English what I have been saying in curse words for the last couple months. I look forward to reading the entire article and reverting with my thoughts.

Tbh it does look a lot worse than the old guard, at least in the batting. Brandon King has had a poor few years and was average at best in the international games he has played. Mark Deyal has shown improvement of late but at 28 his ceiling is not particularly high. Kennan Lewis is a slogger who will get found out at the highest level. Cornwall does has a good strike rate but comes with notable downsides - he would have really struggled in the day games during this world cup for example. With the possible exception of Sherfane Rutherford, the new guard is not a match on the old guard!

A narrow take on an expansive article.

Sorry for the late reply on this, not sure at all I agree with you Tom. Kennar Lewis has power combined with huge intent and while he's not been continually tested by high level bowling it's hard to make an argument he'd be worse than Lendl Simmons or Roston Chase.

Why isn't Sunil Narine on this list though?

While I don't know the answers with regards to his numbers in detail, my understanding was Narine had initially made himself unavailable for selection for West Indies and it's a moot point if he doesn't want to play. I've also read that he did not pass fitness tests. Perhaps a bit of a and a bit of b?

Zain, you are conflating two separate things here. (1) In the real world CWI said Sunil was not considered because he failed a fitness test. (2) In this article, Dan does a performance analysis and produces his preferred list of players. For his analysis Dan did not take real world fitness tests into account. I know this because (a) He never said he did and (b) Sherfane Rutherford also failed CWI's fitness test (in the real world) but is included in here in Dan's list. My question is really directed to Dan, for an explanation as to why he did not even consider Sunil. It's quite a stark omission in my opinion.

Solely because he wasn't in the original squad and in the article I focused on options aged under 30. Of course a fully fit Narine playing well would be an asset for any team.
