A couple of England central contracts charts
I’m planning on posting a deep dive into the England central contract discussion tomorrow, so in advance of this I thought it might be interesting to post several charts which I’ve created.
First of all, player ages versus recent appearance levels:-
The other chart I’m going to post now is age brackets versus average contract length:-
Some thoughts for discussion ahead of the article:-
Have the players on multi-year deals towards the bottom-right hand corner been given contracts which are too long, potentially leaving England with future declining players which they may at some point in the next couple of years not want to select, but would be on long and probably expensive contracts?
Are England too loyal to players in the 33-35 age bracket, and is there a mindset of looking at their past levels as opposed to current and expected future levels? They certainly wouldn’t be the only team to do this.
Finally, is there any need to offer more than a one-year deal for any player aged 32+?
